Newlyweds Nayanthara-Vignesh Shivan have stirred a hornet’s nest with their visit to Tirupati, Friday. While Nayanthara was seen walking the sanctimonious premises in her sandals, the couple left devotees and priests peeved with a photo session at the pilgrim destination.
After a fairytale wedding in Mahabalipuram on June 9, the pair headed to the hill temple at Tirupati to participate in the Kalyanatsavam of Lord Venkateswara. In the photos and videos that went viral on the internet, Nayanthara was seen walking the premises of the shrine with her footwear on.
According to the chief vigilance security officer, Tirumala Tirupati Desvasthanam Board, Narasimha Kishore, wearing sandals inside the temple’s premises is strictly prohibited. “She was seen roaming with footwear in Mada Streets. Our security immediately reacted. We have even noticed that they did a photo shoot inside the temple’s premises, which is also prohibited. Private cameras are not allowed inside the Holy Shrine.”
Informing that they will soon serve a legal notice to the actor, he added: “We are serving a legal notice to Nayanathara. We have also spoken to her. She wanted to release a video to the press apologising to Lord Balaji, TTD, and pilgrims. However, we are going to serve the notice.”
For their part, explaining what happened there, Vignesh posted: “We had a wonderful darshan and wanted to preserve a picture outside the temple. It felt like the wedding was complete only after the darshan. However, there was a huge crowd and in the ensuing chaos, we had to exit the premises. When we re-entered, in the hurry for a quick picture, we did not realize we had our footwear on. We respect the Thirumala premises and aplogise for any hurt caused inadvertently.”
The director also wrote how the couple had been to Tirupati five times in the last month with the desire to get married there. “Due to various reasons, it was not possible to hold our wedding at Tirupati temple,” the statement read.
The grand and glittering wedding at a Mahabalipuram resort was attended by close friends and family including Rajnikanth, Shah Rukh Khan and director Atlee among others.
