The Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, according to an official government release. The terror camps attacked were linked to various banned groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The statement clarified, “No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted.”
Even as the operation was launched, three innocent civilians lost their lives in indiscriminate firing/shelling.

On “Operation Sindoor”, the Ministry of Defence shard on X, “Focused strikes were carried out on nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, targeting the roots of cross-border terror planning.”
A foreign news agency has claimed that 19 people, including a child, were killed in attacks in Pakistan. India, however, has said that there are so far no reports on civilian casualties.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the armed forces for their “targeted and precise” strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, conducted in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. “Proud of our armed forces. #OperationSindoor is Bharat’s response to the brutal killing of our innocent brothers in Pahalgam. The Modi government is resolved to give a befitting response to any attack on India and its people. Bharat remains firmly committed to eradicating terrorism from its roots,” Amit Shah wrote on X.
The Pakistani military responded by resorting to heavy mortar shelling on forward villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri. Shelling was reported in areas such as Krishna Ghati, Shahpur, and Mankote in Poonch, as well as Laam, Manjakote, and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri district.
According to reports, India employed loitering munitions to carry out a precision attack, ensuring that only terror launch pads were identified and destroyed. The coordinates for the strikes were provided by Indian intelligence agencies, allowing the operation to be carried out entirely from Indian soil. Loitering munitions, also known as suicide drones or kamikaze drones, are precision-guided weapons with warheads that hover over a target area before crashing into it, ensuring targeted strikes. These systems can be controlled autonomously or remotely, offering tactical flexibility.
Home Secretary Govind Mohan reviewed preparations for strengthening civil defense measures yesterday, which included mock drills on air-raid warning sirens, training civilians on self-defense in case of a hostile attack, and cleaning bunkers and trenches.
Reports added that a red alert was declared across Uttar Pradesh. State police officials confirmed the heightened alert and stated that all field units have been instructed to coordinate with defense establishments and strengthen security around vital installations. “UP Police remains alert, equipped, and fully prepared to ensure the safety of every citizen,” the Uttar Pradesh Police stated on X.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council discussed rising tensions between India and Pakistan behind closed doors, urging both sides to de-escalate and engage in dialogue. While no official statement was issued after the meeting, Pakistan claimed that its objectives were “largely served.”
Calling it a “shame”, US President Donald Trump responded to the escalating situation, urging both India and Pakistan to avoid further conflict. “They’ve been fighting for a long time. They’ve been fighting for many, many decades and centuries, actually, if you really think about it,” Trump was quoted as saying.
A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry described India’s actions as “regrettable” and called for restraint. “We are concerned about the ongoing situation. India and Pakistan are and will always be each other’s neighbours. They are also China’s neighbours,” the spokesperson remarked. “China opposes all forms of terrorism. We urge both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, remain calm, exercise restraint, and refrain from taking actions that may further complicate the situation.”
