Place Your Food Order By WhatsApp: Indian Railways Begins New Service

| Updated: February 6, 2023 16:20

Do you intend to order food during your train journey? You can do it now through WhatsApp. In order to make its e-catering services more client-focused, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC), a PSU of Indian Railways, launched e-catering services for passengers using WhatsApp on Monday.

IRCTC already provided customer service through its e-catering app Food on Track and website www.catering.irctc.co.in.

For this, the Railways has launched a Business WhatsApp number +91-8750001323. Based on customer feedback and ideas, Railways will enable WhatsApp communication on other trains as well. WhatsApp communication has already been used for electronic catering services on some trains and among some passengers.

The method for ordering food while travelling via WhatsApp was described by the Railways in a press release.

1. When purchasing a ticket, the customer will receive a message from the business WhatsApp number inviting them to choose e-catering services by visiting the website www.ecatering.irctc.co.in.

2. Once on the website, visitors can make reservations for meals at the restaurants of their choice that are located at stops along the route.

3. Following that, WhatsApp will be made available as a platform for a two-way conversation. All passenger inquiries for e-catering services will be handled by an AI-powered chatbot.

According to the railways’ statement, IRCTC’s e-catering services provide consumers with about 50,000 meals per day. In order to offer meals to train passengers, an online platform called Zoop India teamed up with Jio Haptik Technologies Limited, a supplier of WhatsApp chatbot solutions.

According to a statement by the company, passengers may utilise the WhatsApp-based self-service food delivery platform to place meal orders and have those orders delivered directly to their seats with real-time order tracking, feedback, and assistance.
