The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Raising Day is commemorated on January 19, every year. Since the Force was established in 2006, its members have significantly contributed to the nation’s disaster management efforts and disaster risk reduction awareness in the community (DRR).
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi greeted the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on their Raising Day. In a tweet, the PM said “Raising Day greetings to @NDRFHQ. They are making commendable efforts to assist people in the most challenging circumstances. Their bravery is admirable. India is making many efforts to strengthen disaster management apparatus including building disaster resilient infrastructure.”
Also, the Union Home Minister greets NDRF, he tweeted that“My best wishes to the Bravehearts of the NDRF on the occasion of their Raising Day. The journey of the NDRF abounds with exemplary acts of courage and commitment to professional excellence. I salute them for all the lives they saved imperiling their own.”
The NDRF 12 Battalions made up of specialised, multi-skilled personnel.These battalions are stationed in 16 different locations based on the vulnerability profile. It is done to speed up their deployment at disaster sites by reducing the response time.
India witnessed successive natural calamities from 1990 to 2004. This resulted in the enactment of the Disaster Management Act on December 26, 2005. Under this act, the National Disaster Response Force was formed with the aim to formulate plans, policies, and guidelines for disaster management. Their motto is ‘Aapada Seva Sadaiv Sarvatra Which means sustained disaster response service under all circumstances. Every year since its establishment, the country celebrates the NDRF Raising Day. This year marks the 18th Raising Day.
