Following the shocking incident that involved Punjab health minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra, vice-chancellor at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) and one of the top spinal surgeons in India, Dr Raj Bahadur, resigned from his post. Bahadur has said that he had never been more humiliated in his life with a career spanning over 44 years. With teary eyes, Bahadur said he would prefer to resign under the circumstances. His secretary OP Chaudhary has also resigned from the post.
Dr Raj Bahadur is an internationally known spinal surgeon who has nearly 45 years of experience. He has served in 13 institutes. Many innovative surgical techniques have been attributed to his name. While submitting his resignation, Dr Bahudur assured the people that he would continue to serve people in the country.
The whole incident happened when Jauramajra of the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in Punjab was visiting the BFUHS to inspect the infrastructure and facilities at the establishment. Seeing the poor condition of the mattress, Jauramajra called Dr Bahadur and forced him to lie down on the same. Jauramajra’s actions were insulting, especially considering Dr Bahadur’s stature in the medical field.
Many leaders have come forward and condemned Jauramajra’s actions towards Dr Bahadur. Indian National Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring met with Dr Bahadur following the incident. He said, “I couldn’t see eye to eye with Dr Raj Bahadur Ji, as there was helplessness in his eyes. It was not he who felt insulted and humiliated, but all of us together. Entire Punjab stands in solidarity with you, Sir.”
Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed his discontentment and anger towards the incident. “Have spoken to Dr Bahadur & expressed solidarity with him besides assuring full support to the entire med fraternity which is being targeted by AAP ministers & MLAs.” he said.
