Rajasthan Govt To Take Action Against Tina Dabi Over Demolition Orders

| Updated: May 19, 2023 16:12

After the district administration removed encroachments of temporary settlements in the Amarsagar gram panchayat region of Rajasthan, Tina Dabi, a 2016 IAS officer who is currently the district collector of Jaisalmer, sparked a commotion. The temporary colonies have been home to Hindu refugees from Pakistan.

She then stated that these migrants will be provided with a shelter house till they are allotted a piece of land. Rajasthan Minister Pratap Khachariyawas said the officials must answer for the eviction campaign, he found this dive unreasonable. Actions will be taken against the authorities involved in this drive as he believes that the purpose behind this is to defame the government.

Tuesday saw the demolition, which led to objections from the transient settlers. At a press conference on Wednesday, Tina Dabi said that she had spoken to the refugees and had given them an explanation of the reasons behind the expulsion. A circular was issued by the authorities on April 5.

Despite the circulars, many of these settlers were adamant and didn’t evacuate the place. They were no longer living there because it had been assigned to someone else. They were then promised a shelter house till a piece of land will be allocated to them.

The Urban Improvement Trust will identify the evicted individuals and assign them a suitable location in a week. This land was either allotted by UIT previously or they were settled in a water catchment area and so they had to be evacuated stated Tina Dabi. Those who have citizenship will be given land, and those who do not will be recognized and relocated after obtaining citizenship, at which point they will also receive land.
