Three Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, were arrested by Rajkot Rural police on Saturday for allegedly entering India illegally. The arrests were made near Rangparna Patiya in Paddhari taluka on Jamnagar Road.
The Special Operation Group (SOG) detained two men, identified as Sohil Hussain, 30, and Ripon Hussain, 28, during a special operation. The two failed to produce any valid documents proving Indian citizenship, according to the police.
“During the ongoing patrolling against the citizens of other countries who were infiltrating during the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations, Sohil Hussain and Ripon Hussain, both from Dhaka, Bangladesh, were found living in a rented house in Bhupat Society, in Rangpur village in Paddhari,” said PI FA Pargi of the SOG.
Following their detention, a woman identified as Reena Biswas, 34, was also arrested. She was accused of assisting the two men in entering India. Police said Reena, also a Bangladeshi national, had been staying in the same area for the past one and a half years.
During interrogation, Sohil and Ripon revealed that they had illegally entered India two months ago via road with the help of an agent. They reportedly paid the agent in full for their entry. The two men had been working as labourers in a factory since their arrival.
Police are currently investigating whether the individuals have any links to terror groups or other criminal activities. Statements from the property owner who rented the house to the accused and their employer have been recorded.
The Central Intelligence Bureau (CBI) has also been informed of the case.
As of now, no offence has been registered against the individuals, and investigations are ongoing.
