With the advancement of technology, the miscreants find a way to subvert the system meant to be benefit the society, to their own benefit. In once such case which underlines the importance to safeguard your identity documents, a senior government official in Bharuch is cheated by having a loan without his knowledge.
Bharuch District Additional Collector J D Patel has registered a complaint at the Divisional Police Station against unknown persons when he came to know that there is a loan outstanding at IDFC Bank Noida branch for purchase of iPhone. Apparently, the loan was obtained fraudulently using PAN Card and Aadhaar Card of the officer without his consent.
The officer came to know about existence of the loan only when he approached HDFC bank for home loan. Upon searching his CIBIL score, it was revealed that there was a loan of Rs.85990 outstanding against his name in IDFC Bank. More importantly, the loan was taken four years ago, on 29th May 2018. The officer denied having taken any such loan ever.
The incident such as this, highlights the importance to not hand over the identity documents like adhar card and pancard to unknown persons. Though, over the years, the security features have been enhanced for online purchases and digital transactions with two step verification and OTP based confirmations, the frauds are often found one step ahead of general public.
The cheating inflicted upon gullible public by the miscreants by way of social media and digital frauds are a real menace and an actual hindrance on the path of digitised economy. Poor people in rural areas are ofte found duped of their hard earned money as the fraudsters seem to have inclination about the money lying in their accounts. The data protection and tracking of such scamsters is need of the hour, not to mention the necessity to deal with them very strictly.
