Former Gujarat Congress leader Shweta Brahmbhatt is set to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 2, along with 200 of her supporters. This is the same day that Patidar leader Hardik Patel, who quit Congress earlier this month, will be inculcated into BJP.
Grapevine has been abuzz since Brambhatt met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April, during the former’s visit to the state. Finally, she resigned from Congress in May.
Brambhatt contested the Gujarat Assembly polls in 2017 on a Congress ticket, pitted against BJP’s Suresh Patel. Although she lost, she made headlines and managed to grab attention of the public as one of the most competent Congress leaders.
Shweta Brahmbhatt, daughter of Congressman Narendra Brahmbhatt, pursued a post-graduate program from University of Westminster, London, after completing her BBA. She worked as an investment banker with HSBC and Darashaw.
At a later phase, she went in for a political leadership course at IIM, Bangalore. Brahmbhatt was one among 26 women and the only person from Gujarat in the course. During and after the course she met Congress leaders.
