| Updated: August 26, 2021 12:19

The import curbs at airports and ports in China add to the woes of manufacturers already stricken by an acute scarcity of chipsets for smartphones, leading to the market analysts chopping their 2021shipment estimates for the second time this year.

TechArc has reduced its projections by 7 percent extra while IDC mentioned that the trade is observing an extra 5-10 percent drop in shipments. The market trackers had sharply reduced their shipment progress estimates to both by simply one percent in May.

China accounts for 60-70 percent of elements utilised in digital items manufactured in India. On account of Covid infections amongst staff, the freight prices have also elevated by 40-50 percent, nearly doubled in the previous three months.

Analysts said that the shortfall in shipments might influence gross sales in the course of the upcoming festive season which is essential for the trade as it makes up nearly a third of its annual gross sales.

Faisal Kawoosa, founder of TechArc mentioned that they were expecting sales of 152-155 million smartphones for 2021. However, with ongoing supply chain issues, they expect witnessed falling short of 5-15 percent in meeting their targets for the year.

He also mentioned manufacturers, particularly those catering to the mass segments, might see about a 15 percent shortfall in shipments with the lead on the festive season.
