Western Railway will introduce two special trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26 to help those wishing to attend Coldplay’s concerts in Ahmedabad. This is in response to the soaring airfares between the two cities.
The trains, designated as “winter specials” by the Railway Board, are primarily operated to ease the increased passenger demand for the Coldplay concerts at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat on January 25 and 26.
The trains will depart from Bandra Terminus at 6:15 a.m. and reach Ahmedabad at 2:00 p.m. on both days. For the return journey, they will leave Ahmedabad at 1:40 a.m. the following day and arrive back at Bandra Terminus at 8:40 a.m. In both directions, the trains will stop at Borivali, Vapi, Udhna, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara and Gertapur.
Officials have pointed out that airfares between Mumbai and Ahmedabad have significantly increased due to the concerts, and trains on this route are fully booked. Given Coldplay’s huge popularity and previous experiences with high demand during events like the Cricket World Cup, it is believed that even these two additional trains may not be sufficient.
For Coldplay’s concerts at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21, organisers have arranged a Full Tariff Rate (FTR) for suburban locals to transport concert-goers.
