The much-anticipated sequel, Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee, is set to release in theatres on August 15. The original Stree, released in 2018, was a beloved horror-comedy directed by Amar Kaushik, set in the town of Chanderi where a spirit kidnaps men. The legend of Stree had townsfolk writing “O Stree Kal Aana” on their walls to ward off the spirit.
The sequel picks up where the first film left off, with the locals of Chanderi teaming up with the mysterious character played by Shraddha Kapoor to confront a new ghost known as ‘Sarkata’. Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee reprise their roles, joined by Pankaj Tripathi’s character, Rudra.
Stree 2 is poised to become the biggest box office opener of the year, with reports suggesting it could earn over Rs 40 crore on its opening day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has already garnered over Rs 13.7 crore in advance bookings. The film will benefit from an extended weekend, with the release coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday.
The film faces competition from John Abraham’s Vedaa and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, though neither has generated significant buzz. Stree 2 is banking on audience loyalty to become the year’s biggest hit, with projections indicating it could surpass Rs 100 crore within the first few days of release.
