A 10-year-old boy died after a teacher in a government school allegedly beat him up with a shovel before throwing him from the first floor of the school building in Hadli village in Gadag, on Monday. The teacher is on the run. The incident comes on the heels of a teacher in a Delhi school attacking a student with scissors, chopping her hair and throwing her off the first floor of the school in a fit of rage.
Bharat Baraker was bleeding profusely when he was rushed to Nargund taluk hospital. From there he was shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi where he succumbed to injuries.
Muttappa Yellappa Hadagali, 33, the guest teacher, also assaulted Bharat’s mother who teaches in the same school.
Police said Muttappa went to Class IV and asked for Bharat. When the boy came out of the classroom, Muttappa allegedly began attacking him with a shovel. Hearing the boy’s screams, his mother Geeta who was teaching in another class came rushing out and tried to rescue him. She too took some blows from the shovel. Muttappa then flung Bharat from the first floor.
