Three people, Dula Vagh (22), Savaj Vagh (21) and Naka Vagh (22) were arrested for harassment of two lions in Rampara village of Rajula taluka in Amreli district on Friday. They were booked under several sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, says the forest department.
All three were detained on July 21, for allegedly harassing two lions near the village, while the animals were hunting for food. Nilesh Vegda, who is the in-charge assistant conservator of the forest, said that the three accused did not allow the lion and the lioness to prey on the other animal. They chased them on a bike, recorded videos, had selfies with the lions and also posted the video on social media.
In the video, it is seen that the lioness is running in fear on a bridge. The video was recorded from a speeding bike. Other videos than this, and photos as well, were also found on their mobile phones. They were teasing the lions in all the videos. As of now, the videos are being investigated. They were put forward before a court that sent them to judicial custody.
Naka Vagh, one of the three accused, is a repeat offender. He was arrested some years ago for a similar crime and was released on bail. All the three offenders are good friends and belong to the same village.
