Two Accused Of Firing Outside Salman Khan’s House In 10-Day Police Custody

| Updated: April 16, 2024 17:37

A Mumbai court ordered 10-day police custody for two men accused of opening fire near Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence.
The accused were arrested earlier in the day on Tuesday and produced before the Esplanade Court in Mumbai.
The prosecution presented evidence to the court, alleging that the two were involved in the firing, conducting a recce of Salman Khan’s residence, and even rented a house near his Panvel farm to track his movements. The investigating officer informed the court that the arms used in the incident have not been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to locate others involved in the crime.
According to the officer, a threat letter was previously sent to Khan, and the recent shooting represents a serious case of attempted murder with potential international and interstate connections.
Following the incident, the accused allegedly attempted to evade capture by changing their attire and crossing railway tracks near Santacruz in Mumbai. Despite their efforts to flee, the suspects were eventually arrested in Gujarat, the officer said.
The prosecution emphasised the need to uncover the source of funding for the shooters and identify the parties responsible for procuring the firearms used in the attack.
In light of the absence of legal representation for the suspects, advocate Ajay Dubey was appointed by the court to represent them. Lawyer Dubey argued that the charge of attempted murder may not apply since no physical harm was inflicted on the actor.
After considering arguments from both sides, the magistrate’s court decided to remand the suspects to police custody for 10 days. The suspects are to remain in custody until April 25।
