Increasing number of cybercrimes in the past few months is posing a major challenge for the law enforcement agencies and the information technology industry in the state. Recently two businessmen from Ahmedabad were cheated of over Rs 1 crore by cyber criminals, who posed as narcotics officials.
DCP of Cyber-Crime Ajit Rajian said “We have received four complaints of cyber fraud last month. The fraudsters cheated one businessman of Rs 1 crore and another of Rs 4 lakh.” No arrest has been made so far.
Using the narcotics’ department’s name, fraudsters contact people and swindle money from them. In the month of march at least four people received video calls from these cyber criminals. These callers threatened victims with legal action unless they cleared their name in the drug trafficking case. They asked them to pay money as soon as possible to avoid the arrest.
