UK Foreign Secy Raises Concern Over I-T Searches In BBC Offices

| Updated: March 1, 2023 19:16

In a meeting with his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar on Wednesday, UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly brought up the issue of tax searches at BBC offices in India.

According to sources quoting an interview with Cleverly, who is in India to take part in the two-day G20 Foreign Ministers conference, which got underway in Delhi on Wednesday, the topic was brought up during their bilateral discussion.

Income tax officials conducted “survey operations” at BBC offices in Mumbai and New Delhi, last month.

The searches followed a strong response from the Indian government to a BBC documentary on the riots that followed the Godhra train burning incident in Gujarat in 2002, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the state’s, Chief Minister.
