Who Is Protecting These Mafias? Rahul Gandhi On Gujarat Hooch Tragedy

| Updated: July 29, 2022 16:10

Rahul Gandhi this morning slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -led government in Gujarat for the devastating hooch tragedy, which led to the death of nearly 60 people. The latthakand came as a shock to the people, especially considering that Gujarat has been a dry state for ages. Gandhi took to Twitter and said, “In the ‘dry state’ Gujarat, many houses were destroyed by drinking spurious liquor. Drugs worth billions are also being recovered there continuously. It is a matter of great concern, on the land of Bapu and Sardar Patel, who are these people who are doing drug business indiscriminately? Which ruling forces are giving protection to these mafias?”

Another Congress leader, Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, also talked to the media this morning. He said that Congress wants to put forth three specific demands in Parliament. The matter must be investigated by the sitting judge of the High Court. The government must financially compensate the families of those who died after consuming spurious liquor. Besides, the government should take care of those who have lost their eyesight or have damaged their internal organs.

Gohil also said that this whole incident happened because of the government’s negligence. “The government must take moral responsibility for this tragedy, which has led to the death of so many people living in rural areas.”
