| Updated: March 19, 2022 13:47

On Friday, a World Health Organization (WHO) said that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, citing a rise in cases. In India, cases are declining whereas in other parts of the world cases are rising.

Previously, WHO has said that the critical phase of the pandemic could end this year. Still, it would depend on how quickly every country meets its target to vaccinate 70% of the population.

When asked about the timing of the ending of the pandemic, Margaret Harris responded that it was far from over and, we are still in the middle of the pandemic.

After more than a month of decline, COVID-19 cases have increased worldwide, with lock-downs in Asia and especially China battling to contain an outbreak.

The health body of the U.N. said that a combination of factors was causing the increase in cases, including the highly transmissible Omicron variant and its cousin the BA.2 sub-variant, along with the lifting of social measures.

In India, 181.04 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far. India’s active caseload currently stands at 27,802. The recovery rate currently at 98.73% is whereas Active cases stand at 0.06%. A few days ago Vaccination drive for children in the age group of 12-14 was started by the central government.
