Conveners and Members of PAAS and SSSS had planned to take out a Yatra protesting the name change of Motera Stadium. They believed and PAAS Convener Alpesh Katherika explained that if they wanted to give Narendra Modi’s name to a stadium, they should build another stadium and name it after Modi instead of replacing Sardar Patel’s name with Modi’s. He firmly believes that their objections to the above event are legitimate and valid.
Asserting their above belief, they had planned to take a Sardar Sankalp Yatra to oppose the name change. 46 people including conveners and members of PAAS (Patidar Anamat Andolan Samithi), Sardar Sanman Sanklap Samithi (SSSS), and Congress leaders of Bardoli were detained by Surat police before they could take out a Yatra. The Yatra was scheduled to take place on June 12 and 13th and from Sardardham at Bardoli to Sardar Patel Stadium at Motera.
70 people had gathered for the same, but Surat rural police sprung into action and caught 46 people while others escaped. Few of them were kept in Bardoli police station, while others were kept in Mahuva police station in Surat District.
The detainee includes PAAS convener Alpesh Katheriya, convenor Dharmik Malaviya, SSSS leader Nikhilesh Amin, Bardoli town Congress president Kirit Lakdawala and others.
