Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested six people accused of kidnapping a petrol pump owner and asking for a ransom of ₹70 Lakhs. Seemingly, the six blamed the owner for grabbing the land illegally. However, the kidnappers tried to intimidate the owner, Atul Patel, by firing shots. The police captured the six people on charges of firing and kidnapping.
On June 8, Patel, a resident of Motera in Ahmedabad, was driving his car when an unknown vehicle started to chase him. Afterward, the men in the car abducted Patel. Then, they took him to a closed space at a farm near Bilodra Umiyanagar near Visnagar Road.
As soon as the information reached the Chandkheda police, they dispatched different teams to rescue the abducted. Later, the Crime Branch received a tip on the case. They arrested father-son, Mahendrasinh Gol and Fuldeepsinh Gol. Further, they confiscated three mobile phones, ammunition, and a car used in the kidnapping.
Initially, the police caught three people and discovered that the kidnapping was purely for ransom. Their interrogation also revealed that their partners were coming to Naroda Dastan Circle to collect ransom from Patel’s brother. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch immediately set a trap. Thus, they caught the suspects Rahul Modi, Mohsin Fakir, and Mohammad Abrar Ansari on the pretext of taking the ransom amount. The police seized ₹5.26 Lakhs from the accused with a pistol and four cartridges.
Further probe revealed that Patel bought land from Mahendra in 2017, but there was some dispute over the money transaction.
