| Updated: June 13, 2022 16:26

A resident of Rakhial area in Ahmedabad has been booked by the Cybercrime branch for making instigating remarks on social media. The man has said that the violence that occurred in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand due to Nupur Sharma’s insulting comments against Prophet Mohammad was justified. The remarks that the man made in a post dated June 10 were also considered ‘provoking’ since he had called out to people of Ahmedabad for not organizing any protests over the matter.

According to the sources, the 36-year-old Irshad Ansari’s comments were spotted by the cybercrime officials while they were conducting their routine scroll for inappropriate comments. In the comments, he had said that violent protests in the two states were a sign of their devotion towards Prophet Mohammad. He had also said that the people in Ahmedabad should be ‘ashamed’ of not doing anything like this.

Furthermore, in his remarks, Ansari had also said that the police had shot at those protesting in Ranchi. He had shared many pictures of people protesting in different places.

As such, in the FIR, Ansari has been charged with IPC 153, for wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riots, as well as for attempting to breach public tranquility and peace.
