Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs conducted a meeting on the topic “Forensic Science Capabilities: Strengthening for Time-bound and Scientific Investigation” in Nevada town in Gujarat, which was helmed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Members of Parliament, Ministers of State for Home Nityanand Rai, Ajay Kumar Mishra, Nishith Pramanik and Union Home Secretary along with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, NCRB and National Forensic Science University, were present at the meeting.
Amit Shah stated that the Modi Government gives primary importance to the internal and external security of the country. He further added that the government under the supervision of Modi strives to achieve public welfare by consolidating the systems for crime detection and prevention, bolstered by functional law enforcement.
The Ministry of Home Affairs under Amit Shah aims to attain a conviction rate of up to 90 percent, and provide a citizen-friendly and effective criminal justice system.
Shah emphasized the need for investigating agencies to be proactive in order to stay ahead of criminals, and he believes this can be done with the optimum use of technology-based and evidence- based investigation.
He shared that the Modi government is working with the State governments in order to develop a three- point approach to reforms in Police Investigation, Prosecution and Forensics.
Shah also revealed that the Modi government is aiming to make foreign investigation compulsory in all cases where the offense is declared punishable with imprisonment for more than 6 years. The government has taken necessary steps to ensure that steps are being taken to make the crime system more technologically driven. National Defense University has been opened to train manpower to use technology to combat crime. Hackathons are being organized to attract the appropriate youth who can take part in the innovative technology Shah shared that a Modus Operandi Bureau has also been opened in order to scan and observe the pattern of crime, and undertake prevention measures for the same. He said that the Central Government is supplying funds to set up Mobile Forensic Science Units in each district.
In order to standardize forensic equipment, instrument calibration and standard operating procedures, in all FSLs in the country, steps are being taken to achieve premium quality forensic results.\
