For the government’s new campaign “Har Ghar Tiranga”, the city civic body had ordered 22 lakh national flags for approximately Rs5 crore. The cost per flag was Rs 30 per flag. The proposal was recently approved by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation general body. But, a recent change of events in which there was a shortage of bamboo sticks for flagpoles, forced the AMC to bring down the order size to 11 lakh flags.
Sources said that the plan was that AMC would procure national flags on three-foot bamboo flag poles. But, due to the shortage of bamboo in the city, only 11 lakh national flags have been able to be procured till now. Sources also revealed that 6 lakh of the procured flags were created with aluminum sticks as flag poles.
Officials shared that the civic body so far had only been able to get 4 lakh bamboo sticks, which will be used as masts of the national flags. The other 6 lakh are on aluminum poles.
The official further said that the BJP, the ruling party in the civic body will also distribute national flags in every constituency. For now, it has been decided that the AMC will sell 11 lakh national flags, and the BJP will take responsibility for the other 11 lakh.
