BJP May Appoint Two Deputy CMs in Madhya Pradesh to Balance Caste Equations

BJP May Appoint Two Deputy CMs in Madhya Pradesh

Sources are reporting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may appoint two Deputy Chief Ministers in Madhya Pradesh, following the party’s landslide victory in the recent assembly elections. The strategy is said to be similar to the one adopted in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP appointed two Deputy Chief Ministers from different caste groups to balance the political landscape.

According to sources, the BJP is considering appointing one tribal and one Other Backward Class (OBC) leader as Deputy Chief Ministers. This move is seen as an attempt to consolidate the party’s support among these two influential groups in the state.

The BJP is also said to be looking to groom a Brahmin leader for the Chief Minister’s post. However, the final decision is yet to be taken.

The speculation about the appointment of two Deputy Chief Ministers has gained traction after the party’s resounding victory in the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. The BJP won 163 seats, while the Congress was limited to just 69 seats.

The party’s success in the elections can be attributed to the popularity of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who has managed to retain his grip on the state despite facing several challenges in recent years.

The appointment of two Deputy Chief Ministers would be a significant step towards balancing the caste equations in Madhya Pradesh. It would also help the BJP to prepare for the next assembly elections, which are scheduled to be held in 2023.

The BJP has a history of appointing leaders who are not members of state assemblies to key positions. In 2017, the party appointed Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, even though he was not a member of the state assembly at the time.

The party may be considering a similar strategy in Madhya Pradesh, where Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Jyotiraditya Scindia are seen as potential contenders for the Chief Minister’s post. However, neither of them contested the recent assembly elections.

The final decision on the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh is likely to be taken by the BJP central leadership in the coming days.
