Coldplay’s grand India tour concluded with an unforgettable spectacle in Ahmedabad as the British band performed two sold-out concerts on January 25 and 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest stadium in the world. The Ahmedabad leg, widely praised for its impeccable organisation and electrifying energy, marked an improvement from the band’s earlier performances in Mumbai.
The tour began with three concerts at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Stadium from January 18 to 21, which left some attendees disappointed. Many fans took to social media to criticise the Mumbai shows for their lacklustre arrangements, with some calling it the “coldest Coldplay concert ever.”
However, the Ahmedabad concerts delivered an entirely different experience. The stadium, with its capacity of over 1.25 lakh, was transformed into a vibrant arena, drawing more than 2.5 lakh attendees over the two days, including 1.7 lakh visitors from outside Gujarat.
The Ahmedabad concerts were lauded for their seamless logistics, stellar crowd management, and world-class infrastructure. Social media was abuzz with praise, with one user posting, “India does have a world-class infrastructure for live concerts, you just need good team management!” Another fan wrote, “1 lac people… Amazing vibe… #Ahmedabad will be the go-to place to organise such gigs in the future.”
The energy of the packed stadium reached new heights as the band performed some of their most beloved hits, including Yellow, Viva La Vida, Hymn for the Weekend, and My Universe.
The shows were a visual extravaganza, with mesmerising pyrotechnics, LED wristbands illuminating the sea of fans, and stunning visuals. The band also tapped into the patriotic spirit of Republic Day with soulful renditions of Vande Mataram and Maa Tujhe Salaam.
Excitement surged when cricketer Jasprit Bumrah made an appearance, earning a glowing shoutout from Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin, who also commended the crowd for their enthusiasm. Fans described the concerts as “surreal,” with one user posting, “Scale of Ahmedabad very tough to match. Truly magical.”
The crowd included fans from across India, with many going to great lengths to attend. Kashvi, a local from Ahmedabad, shared her excitement, saying, “I love their song Sparks. I’m so excited to be here today!”
Sadhya, a superfan from Varanasi, revealed, “I paid surge pricing for my flight just to be here. It was totally worth it!”
Yuvika, who travelled by train from Bangalore, said, “The people here are so excited, and the energy is contagious. It’s going to be a night to remember.”
Families also joined in the shows. Dr Shweta Patel from Surat attended with her husband and daughter, Prarthana, who dressed in true Coldplay fashion with rhinestone stickers on her face. “Coldplay loves people who stand out, so I’m hoping I’ll make it onto the camera!” she said, laughing.
Business tycoon Anand Mahindra shared a clip of the event on social media, calling it a defining moment for India’s live entertainment scene.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi also praised the efforts of Ahmedabad Police and event organisers, highlighting the smooth logistics and absence of complaints despite the large influx of visitors. “Hassle-free roads, warm welcomes, and top-notch hospitality – from autos to cabs, restaurants to street vendors, and hotels – we’ve got it all!” he posted.
Coldplay’s Ahmedabad concerts have set a new benchmark for live entertainment in India, with fans declaring the experience unforgettable. “The Ahmedabad crowd was too good. It was a literal paradise. Unforgettable night,” a fan shared, perfectly capturing the sentiment of the historic event.
