Congress Gears Up For Upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections

| Updated: January 31, 2022 11:51

“No one can defeat Congress, only Congress can defeat itself” – said Navjot Singh Sidhu while responding to a question amidst the Assembly Election.

In the three regions of Punjab- Majha, Doaba and Malwa- the party members are at a cutthroat competition, and in some cases, they are laying serious allegations upon each other internally.

The Majha region has 25 seats. In 2017, Sidhu being a newbie had managed to gain seats in Amritsar East, where he was the candidate but in Amritsar city as well, but later the positions changed and Sidhu is no longer a uniting force for Congress in that region. Deputy CM Om Prakash Soni is contesting from Amritsar Central and Cabinet Minister Raj Kumar Verka is contesting from Amritsar West, and both of them did not enjoy a good relationship with Sidhu.

The Doaba region will see four Congress legislators- Navtej Singh Cheema, Bawa Henry, Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

One of the biggest embarrassments for Congress is Manohar Singh is filing a nomination as an Independent against Congress MLA Gurpreet Singh GP. There have been some serious allegations against a few of the party members. Harvinder Laddi had to hold a press conference to level allegations of drug smuggling against a powerful Congress minister.
