Dinesh Phadnis, Dies at 57


Dinesh Phadnis, best known for his role as Fredericks in the popular Indian television series CID, died on Monday night at the age of 57. He had been battling liver issues for some time and was admitted to Tunga Hospital in suburban Mumbai a few days ago.

Phadnis was a versatile actor who also appeared in brief roles in films such as Sarfarosh and Mela, both starring Aamir Khan in the lead roles. He also starred in the film Officer in 2001. His acting credits also included cameo appearances in TV shows such as CID: Special Bureau, Adaalat, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and CIF to name a few. Dinesh Phadnis also featured in the Hrithik Roshan film Super 30.

“He Had Liver Issues,” Says Co-Star

Phadnis’ CID co-star Aditya Srivastava confirmed the news and told news agency PTI, “Dinesh has left us around 12:08 am. We know that he had liver issues and it had an impact on the other organs. He was really unwell for two-three days. He couldn’t survive.”

A Long and Successful Career

Phadnis was a prolific actor and writer. In addition to his work on CID, he also wrote for a Marathi film. He was a beloved member of the Indian film and television industry and will be deeply missed.

Tributes from Friends and Colleagues

Many friends and colleagues have paid tribute to Phadnis on social media. Film and television body CINTAA (Cine And TV Artistes’ Association) wrote on Twitter, “CINTAA expresses its condolences on the demise of Dinesh Phadnis (Member since Aug 2004).”

Actor Dayanand Shetty, who played Daya on CID, also paid tribute to Phadnis on Twitter. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dinesh Phadnis. He was a great actor and a wonderful person. He will be dearly missed.”

Phadnis’ legacy will live on through his work on CID and other films and television shows. He was a talented actor who brought joy to millions of people around the world. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kindness, and his dedication to his craft.
