| Updated: June 20, 2022 12:46

A minimum of 10 people have been arrested for spreading misinformation and misleading people about the military recruitment scheme. 35 WhatsApp groups have also been banned for spreading fake news about the new scheme, Agnipath.

Agnipath is a new military scheme that aims to recruit youth between the age of 17 and 21 years on a four-year contract basis. The plan is to recruit 40,000 people called Agniveers under Agneepath. The recruitment can be from either schools, colleges or through recruitment schemes. A mere 25% of the recruited youth will be given extended contracts which shall allow service for upto 15 years in the military. This has stirred violence and protests in different parts of the country.

In order to ensure proper dissemination of information a fact check line has been opened by the Press Information Bureau, to verify information regarding the Agneepath scheme.
