Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals (GSFC) on Monday said that it had to shut down its urea plant two in Gujarat due to leakage problems. The company further stated that it will take at least 13 days to resolve this malfunction, due to this, at least 13 days of production loss has been around more than ten thousand tonnes.
During this change, the Urea Plant-1 will continue to produce at least 320 tonnes per day. Urea-two plants typically produce at 105 per cent capacity with a titanium MOC-lined high-pressure urea reactor (AQR-101). On 16 July 2022, bottom thermo leakage was reported in Urea Reactor (XUR-101) during the night shift. Following this, it was decided to shut down the plant immediately due to safety concerns.
The company further stated that it will take at least 12 days to restart the urea reactor after all necessary checks. This period is also attributed to the special welder qualification test and timely availability of all equipment. GSFC units are located at Surat, Vadodara and Jamnagar. Apart from urea, the company also manufactures diammonium phosphate (DAP) and caprolactam.
