Gujarat Super League From May 1, Trophy And Jersey Unveiled

| Updated: April 25, 2025 17:07

The Gujarat State Football Association (GSFA) has announced Season 2 of Gujarat Super League. The trophy and jerseys for the tournament to be held in Ahmedabad between May 1 and May 13 were unveiled on Friday.

Six teams — Ahmedabad Avengers, Gandhinagar Giants, Karnavati Knights, Saurashtra Spartans, Surat Strikers and Vadodara Warriors — will take part in the GSL. It will be played at Eka Football Ground, TransStadia.

Unveiling the trophy and the jerseys, Parimal Nathwani, president of the GSFA, said there is a need to develop craze like cricket for football in the state so that the game gets encouragement and the football players enjoy life like the cricketers.

He suggested having a meeting with the stakeholders to discuss how the game can be encouraged.

Mentioning that not enough has been done for the game of football, Nathwani said there is a need to have good football grounds in all districts.

Help from the state government is also likely to be taken.

Nathwani, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, said that there are plans in the near future to associate one cricketer and one film star with each team. The move is aimed to popularise the game.

The GSL has been supported by the Sports Authority of Gujarat and Gujarat Tourism.

Nathwani gave away the team jerseys and mementoes to the franchise owners and head coaches.

In a strategic initiative to engage younger spectators, the GSFA will offer complimentary entry to students under the age of 18, along with their parents.

Each team will have 20 players, including 15 from Gujarat. Five players will be from other states.

The players will get anywhere between Rs 30,000 and Rs 60,000.
