The IPL 2024 auction witnessed a historic moment as Mitchell Starc became the highest-priced player ever, securing a massive Rs 24.75 crore deal with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This groundbreaking transaction set a new benchmark for player acquisitions in the IPL.

The bidding frenzy continued with the fourth round dedicated to capped fast bowlers. Pat Cummins emerged as the center of attention, clinching a record-breaking deal of Rs 20.50 crore with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This landmark bid established Cummins as the costliest player in the history of the IPL, further highlighting the intensity of the auction proceedings.

Daryl Mitchell joined the high-stakes game, fetching an impressive Rs 14 crore deal with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Harshal Patel also commanded a significant sum, as Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured his services for Rs 11.75 crore. These transactions marked the entry of three players into the elite club of those crossing the Rs 10 crore mark.

Chennai Super Kings made strategic moves in the auction, acquiring Shardul Thakur for Rs 4 crore and Rachin Ravindra for Rs 1.80 crore. The first set dedicated to capped batters witnessed spirited bidding, with Rovman Powell (Rajasthan Royals) leading the pack with a Rs 7.40 crore deal. Travis Head (SRH) followed closely with a Rs 6.80 crore agreement, while Harry Brook (Delhi Capitals) secured a deal worth Rs 4 crore.

As the auction unfolded, the 10 franchises displayed their financial prowess, collectively holding over Rs 262 crore to be spent on assembling squads from a pool of 332 players. The bidding war for the remaining 77 players promises more excitement and surprises as the IPL 2024 teams take shape.
