A new drug called Dostarlimab was consumed by 18 patients for 6 months at the end of which their Cancer vanished miraculously. All of the patients were given the same drug and as a result, the tumor was completely annihilated and was undetectable by physical exam, endoscopy, positron emission tomography or PET or MRI scans.
The drug has laboratory produced molecules which act as substitute antibodies in the human body.
The patients of the trial had previously faced strenuous treatments to get rid of their cancer, such as Chemotherapy, radiation and invasive surgery that could lead to bowel, urinary even sexual dsyfunction. All the patients were in similar stages of their Cancer, it was locally advanced in the rectum but had not spread to other organs.
When this trial started, they expected the same old exhausting procedures. But, to their astonishment, no such steps were needed as the tumor disappeared!
Dr Luis A. Diaz J. of New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center shared that this was the first time this had happened in the history of Cancer.
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a co-author of the paper, oncologist Dr Andrea Cercek, revealed that the moment patients got to know about the results was a point of joyous celebration. She added that there were a lot of happy tears regarding the same.
This discovery is now making news in the medical world. Dr Alan P.Venook who is a colorectal specialist at the University of California said that these findings are bizarre and unheard of. It was mind-boggling how none of the patients suffered significant complications from the trial drug.
