The Banaskantha police confiscated 17 cartons of liquor from the vehicle of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ahmedabad Crime Investigation Department, on June 4. The police have taken the vehicle drivers, Vishnubhai Chaudhary and Jayeshbhai Chaudhary, into custody. They caught the culprits at Waghor Char Rasta under the Panthwada police station area around 9 PM.
The cases of police seizing illegal liquor smuggled from neighboring states are rising in Gandhi’s Gujarat. Bootleggers have started using several techniques to peddle alcohol inside the state. However, the current case that has come to light is a hot topic.
According to the information, the DSP was on leave. The drivers took advantage of it and used his government-allotted, Bolero (GJ 18 G 5698) to smuggle alcohol from Rajasthan. The police impounded liquor worth ₹1,21,140 from the vehicle. Moreover, they have arrested a constable and another person in the case.
Initially, the cops tried to throw dust at the matter. They denied that any such incident happened. The driver went to Rajsthan to buy liquor and was coming back to Gujarat. However, the Panthwada police arrested him when he tried to cross the Rajasthan-Gujarat border.
However, the case raises eyebrows about the misuse of government vehicles. Apart from this, it questions the anonymous liquor buyer. The officials are continuing further probe into the matter.
