Amid the deterioration of Sri Lanka’s economy, the agitated citizens marched to the residence of President Gotbhaya Rajapaksa. According to a leading Defence Ministry source, the longest protest march on Saturday forced the Sri Lankan President to flee the place.
TV footages reveal a large group of protestors demanding the resignation of Gotbhaya Rakpaksa on his palace compound. However, sources say that he has shifted to a safer place due to hundreds of angry citizens outside his residency.
The cops had to fire tear gas shells to remove the protestors from the property.
Sri Lankan citizens have demanded the resignation of President Gotbhaya due to the declining situation in the country. However, he has not budged. Thus, the mass agitation without any leader emerged and led the President of the country to escape his own house.
According to political analysts, the government is in a non-negotiable position due to the spontaneous nature of the protests. The world anticipates whether the Sri Lankan President will return to his seat.
Earlier, his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned as Prime Minister due to heavy pressure. Sri Lankan citizens have accused the Rajpaksha family of treating the country like a family firm. Moreover, Gotbhaya’s son, the Finance Minister, resigned from the post due to heavy pressure. However, 41 other members of the family and heads of different departments also quit in the wake of mass protests.
