The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that a seven-tier security cover has been put in place to ensure the safety of over 40 crore people expected to attend the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
In both urban and rural locations, as well as close to bus terminals, airports, railway stations and other important routes, the local government has constructed makeshift police stations and checkpoints.
The deployment of the Central Armed Police Forces, BDD, AS Check teams, National Disaster Response Force and Provincial Armed Constabulary will further strengthen security.
The government said in a statement on Sunday that units will be kept in reserve for the city and rural areas.
The number of stations would increase from 44 to 57 as a result of the establishment of 13 temporary police stations and 23 checkpoints for increased security, according to Prayagraj Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba.
There will be approximately 10,000 police officers spread across Prayagraj’s rural and urban areas.
Eight zones, 18 sectors, 21 companies, two reserve companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), five PAC companies, four NDRF teams, 12 AS Check teams and four BDD teams comprise the Prayagraj Police Commissionerate’s permanent and temporary infrastructure, according to the statement.
The biggest event will take place over 45 days, starting on January 13 with Paush Poornima and concluding on February 26 with Maha Shivratri.
