Crime Branch Foils Liquor Smuggling Operation Involving Online Delivery Service in Ahmedabad

|Gujarat | Updated: January 17, 2025 12:39

In a surprising turn of events, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has uncovered a bootlegging operation involving the use of an online delivery service to smuggle illicit alcohol into the city. The authorities seized 46 bottles of liquor from two vehicles, which were reportedly booked through the Porter app. The main suspect, Honey Sindhi, is now wanted by the police, and investigations are ongoing.

The case came to light after the Crime Branch received a tip-off during routine patrolling. The information indicated that two goods vehicles, arranged through the Porter app, were delivering alcohol to Ambawadi in Kubernagar. Acting swiftly, the team intercepted the vehicles at the specified location.

Upon questioning the drivers, it emerged that they had been instructed to transport parcels from Shrinath Cargo in Piplaj to Kubernagar and Ambawadi, with orders to contact Honey Sindhi upon delivery. A search of the vehicles uncovered four parcels containing 46 bottles of illicit liquor.

This incident sheds light on the increasingly sophisticated methods being employed in liquor smuggling operations within the city. Bootleggers are reportedly turning to unconventional tactics, including using logistics apps and even food delivery services, to bypass restrictions and distribute alcohol in prohibited areas.

Following the seizure, the police registered a case against Honey Sindhi, who remains on the run. Efforts are ongoing to track him down and authorities have expanded the investigation to uncover any wider network behind this operation, suspecting similar methods may be used in other parts of the city.
