IndiGo Takes Action Against Staff That Took Mass Sick Leave

| Updated: July 13, 2022 14:39

IndiGo has begun taking disciplinary actions against the aircraft maintenance technicians who went on mass sick leave in the last week and started an agitation demanding revision of salaries. According to sources, the management has asked several employees who took leave in the past week to meet with the company doctor and produce appropriate medical documents as evidence. The company has believed to have sent emails to different employees, marking the date of their leave and the reason, and asked them to produce evidence accordingly.

This notice comes after the company, on Monday, assured the employees on strike that it would consider revising salaries and removing anomalies in place due to Covid-19 pandemic. When the pandemic was at its peak, IndiGo had slashed the salary of the majority of employees.

The airline has had to repeatedly delay flights since the beginning of this month due to several reasons. The lack of crew and ground staff was one of the major reasons. On July 2, IndiGo had delay the departure of the company’s 900 flights because of not having enough crew members. The airline, operating around 1,600 flights daily, was apparently dealing with the non-availability of crew members. The company continued to face some staff-related problems ever since.
