Rahul Gandhi Leaves For Europe; To Miss Key Congress Meeting

| Updated: July 13, 2022 12:27

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again caused a buzz with his most recent foreign trip. According to sources, he has left for Europe for a personal visit and is expected to be back by July 17, just a day ahead of the Presidential Elections.

However, Rahul Gandhi’s trip has caused a stir because the Congress party, which is barely managing to hold its front in the political arena, is set to hold a meeting on Thursday regarding its own presidential election. He will be missing the said meeting. Currently, Sonia Gandhi holds the post of the party president, after Rahul resigned from the post in 2019 following the loss of Lok Sabha elections. It is unclear if Rahul will be contesting for the post. Besides, the Congress party, which is really struggling due to internal conflicts and other reasons, is likely to map out plans for a ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ set to start on October 2.

Rahul Gandhi’s absence at such a crucial meeting has raised questions regarding his commitment to the party and its political agenda. The speculations are rife, especially because this is not the first time that Rahul Gandhi has missed an important meeting of the party.

Earlier this year, Rahul Gandhi went abroad and missed a strategy meeting that the Congress party held with political strategist Prashant Kishor. His recent visit to Kathmandu, Nepal attracted a lot of controversies, especially as it was just after the party’s abysmal performance in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh assembly polls. In May, Rahul Gandhi visited Cambridge in the UK, when the party was facing Rajya Sabha elections and trying hard to stop cross-voting by its MLAs.
