Rajasthan Tops In List of States With Maximum Number Of Universities

Rajasthan has the most universities in India, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. The report also included the names of the districts with the most colleges, according to the Ministry of Education’s latest All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) Report

Rajasthan has 52 state private universities, 26 state public universities, 7 deemed universities, 5 institutes of national importance (IITs, IIMs, NITs), and one central and state-run university, according to the report. 

States with the maximum number of universities are Rajasthan (92), Uttar Pradesh(84) Gujarat( 83), Madhya Pradesh (74), Karnataka ( 72), Maharashtra (71), Tamil Nadu (59), 

Haryana (56), West Bengal (52), and Andhra Pradesh (45). Apart from these, Ladakh has the lowest number of universities (2), followed by Chandigarh, Goa, and Mizoram with three universities each. 

Among districts with the maximum number of colleges, Bengaluru district has the highest number, followed by Jaipur and Hyderabad. In Uttar Pradesh, there are 8114 colleges, and for every lakh of the population, there are 32 colleges. With 4532 colleges and 34 colleges per lakh population, Maharashtra ranks second. Karnataka is ranked third with 4233 colleges and 62 colleges per lakh population, while Rajasthan is ranked fourth with 3694 colleges and 40 colleges per lakh population.
