Nitin Gadkari is upset over the way politics is being handled these days. He firmly believes that Politics is more about social change, than seeking power, but sadly, the latter is given more attention these days. He further stated that he sometimes feels like quitting politics in pursuit of other things which are more important for the society.
In an event in Nagpur, he questioned the meaning of the word politics, whether it means welfare of the state or just being in government. He further talked about how politics has been a close part of the social movement right from the times of Gandhi, but unlike today’s scenario, it then was all about the nation and its developmental goals.
He commented that today’s politics is all about power and hence, today’s politicians must use this tool of socio-economic reform in the best way possible for education and other important avenues in the society.
This entire conversion took place at an event organised to celebrate Girish Gandhi, who is well acquainted with political parties. Gandhi was formerly a MLC, and acquainted with NCP, but he quit the party in 2014.
Gadkari said “ When Girish bhau ws in politics, I used to discourage him because I even sometimes think about quitting politics. Apart from politics, there are many things in life worth doing. “
A staunch believer of the minimalist lifestyle, he said he really does not like when people bring him bouquets or put posters for him. Rather, he admires socialist leader the late George Fernandes for his simple lifestyle. Nitin says his lifestyle which was bereft of need for power, was inspiring to him
