The Ahmedabad Police acted swiftly and successfully rescued a five-year-old girl who had been abducted from the Sarkhej area, managing to locate her within a few hours of the incident.
The abduction occurred on Monday afternoon, around 1:15 pm, when the complainant, a mother with her two children – a seven-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter – was returning from the Maruti Suzuki Nexa Service Centre, located near the Mumtpura Underbridge in the Ambli-Sarkhej area.
While the complainant walked ahead, the two children followed behind. At this point, an unidentified tempo driver, who was in the vicinity, abducted the young girl.
After receiving the complaint, the Sarkhej Police immediately registered the case under Section 137(1)(b) and began their investigation. Recognising the gravity and urgency of the situation, senior officials, including the Police Commissioner, the Additional Commissioner of Sector-1, the Deputy Commissioner of Zone-7 and senior officers from the “M” Division, were all involved in overseeing and coordinating the operation.
In response to the abduction, a multi-team effort was launched under the supervision of Police Inspector R K Dhuliya, assisted by the Surveillance Squad Officer. The police examined footage from over 100 CCTV cameras across the city, combining technical surveillance with human intelligence to track the suspect’s movements.
Due to the thorough investigation and quick response, the police were able to apprehend the suspect, later identified as Rashik Babuji Thakor, a 32-year-old tempo driver residing in Jai Dwarkesh Residency, Ahmedabad. The abducted girl was safely rescued and Thakor was taken into police custody.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the suspect had noticed the girl standing alone and after seeing an opportunity, he abducted her. However, when the girl started crying, he abandoned her at a nearby junction before continuing his loading work.
As of now, further inquiries are underway to collect additional details about the incident and the police are continuing to piece together the events surrounding the abduction.
