Mayawati Expels Nephew Akash Anand from BSP After Dropping Him from Party Posts

| Updated: March 3, 2025 18:43

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday announced the expulsion of her nephew Akash Anand from the party, citing the decision as being in the party’s best interest. The move came a day after Anand was removed from all his posts in the BSP.

Following his removal, Anand said he respects every decision taken by Mayawati and described them as ‘patthar ki lakeer‘ (carved in stone).

He acknowledged the emotional impact of the decision but stated that he has accepted it as a challenge and foresees a long struggle ahead.

On Sunday, Mayawati removed Anand from all key positions in the BSP and appointed his father, Anand Kumar, along with Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Gautam, as national coordinators in his place.

She also declared that she would not name a successor in her lifetime.

In a post on X, Anand wrote in Hindi, “I am a cadre of Mayawati ji and under her leadership, I have learnt unforgettable lessons of sacrifice, loyalty, and dedication. These are not just ideas for me but the purpose of my life.”

He reiterated his unwavering respect for Mayawati’s decisions, saying, “Every decision of Behan ji is like a patthar ki lakeer for me. I respect and stand by every decision taken by her.”

He acknowledged that the decision was emotionally challenging but said, “It is a big challenge now, the test is difficult, and there’s a long battle ahead.”

Calling himself a true worker of the Bahujan Mission and Movement, Anand emphasised the role of patience and determination in navigating difficult times. He stated, “I will continue to work with full devotion for the party and the mission and fight for the rights of my society till my last breath.”

Anand also criticised political rivals, saying, “Some people from the rival party are thinking that my political career is over. They should understand that the Bahujan Movement is not a career, but a fight for self-respect and self-esteem of crores of Dalits, exploited, deprived, and poor people.”

He added, “This is an idea, a movement, which cannot be suppressed. Lakhs of Akash Anands are always ready to keep this torch burning and sacrifice everything for it.”

Mayawati, while announcing Anand’s removal, asserted that the party’s interests come first and that personal relationships should not interfere with organisational decisions.

She had previously removed Anand from the party last year but later reinstated him and named him as her political successor. She also accused his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, of attempting to divide the BSP, stating that he was working against the party’s unity.

Last month, Mayawati expelled Siddharth from the BSP for alleged factionalism and anti-party activities.
